My name is Sierra, and I’m one of charity: water’s Water Program Senior Associates. It’s great to meet you!

We’re already halfway through our campaign to fund a grant that will bring clean water to 27,339 people in Nepal. So, I thought I’d reach out to you to share just how important you are to our work there.

I have the pleasure and privilege of working directly with our local partners. And recently, I was able to visit Nepal to witness the efforts of NEWAH, one of our local partners, first-hand.

To reach the communities NEWAH serves, our team had the opportunity to leave the beaten path for several steep climbs. These mountain hikes in the 90-degree heat gave me just a tiny, tiny glimpse of the struggle women and girls face to access water—and this water is often contaminated. One woman I met was making this trip 7 or 8 times a day!



NEWAH’s gravity-fed, solar, or electric-powered piped systems are making these once-critical journeys a thing of the past. Now, clean and safe drinking water is available to households, schools, and health clinics at the turn of a faucet. This new reality saves women and girls valuable time, promotes healthy sanitation and hygiene practices, and improves communities’ economic output.

But my biggest takeaway from this trip is the intentionality NEWAH exhibits every single day. They consistently go above and beyond for the long-term well-being of those they serve. They even embed their staff in rural communities for up to a year to ensure that every person knows how to maintain their water project and practice safe hygiene and sanitation. That’s care in action!



I wish you could travel with me to the field to see exactly what I mean. When you walk a mile—uphill—in their shoes and hear someone affected by the water crisis share their story, everything changes.
